Nonnative snakes

Large, native snakes

Burmese Python

Burmese pythons are established in South Florida. Several state and federal agencies are trying to control this nonnative snake. Although other large constrictors have been found in Florida, these are most likely released or escaped pets.

Burmese pythons have a pyramid-shaped head with a dark, arrowhead-shaped wedge extending toward the nose, and dark blotches along the back and sides (like a giraffe).
