Pass on the Fishing Tradition and Offer the Next Generation an Opportunity to Enjoy Healthy Sportfish Populations
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's Division of Freshwater Fisheries Management offers four volunteer instructor training programs that allow you to be a part of handing down the fishing tradition:
First: A two-hour training that gives you all the tools that you
will need to teach others basic fishing skills.
Second: A two-hour training designed for your camp's staff that are
interested in conducting fishing activities with campers. This
training emphasizes angling skills and proper safety for anglers,
fish and the environment.
Third: A six-hour training to become a certified Hooked on
Fishing - Not on Drugs® instructor. Hooked on
Fishing - Not on Drugs® is a long-term and
mentor-based program that teaches children about
angling skills, conservation, stewardship, aquatic ecology,
and other related topics. Additionally, the program
emphasizes positive life skills; such as, decision-making,
goal-setting, and choosing to remain drug-free.
Fourth: A sixteen-hour training for directors and their staff that
are interested in conducting a week-long day camp. The
camp's focus is on creating self-sufficient anglers, teaching
basic boating skills and increasing environmental
stewardship among campers.
All training programs come with instructor's manuals. To keep you updated on the most current techniques, follow-up training is provided at your request.
There is no charge for any of these instructor trainings and they can be set up at a time convenient for your group of staff or volunteers. To find out more about any of these training programs please contact:
