...an opportunity for you!

YHEC Shotgun Shooting

Whether you are a youth under the age of 18, an adult with a desire to contribute time to your community, or a member of an organization or business looking for a youth-oriented project, if you have an interest in hunting and the outdoors, Florida's Youth Hunter Education Challenge is an opportunity you don't want to miss!

The Florida Youth Hunter Education Challenge (FLYHEC) is a program developed exclusively for state-administered hunter safety course graduates by the National Rifle Association (NRA).  Competitors learn leadership, ethics, and safety while giving an outlet to expand their horizons about the outdoors, shooting, and hunting.  Understanding today?s need for youth outdoor programs, one of our goals is to ensure we pass along our hunting and shooting heritage. FLYHEC is a multi-discipline event that enables its participants to strive and be better sportsmen while teaching safety and responsibility in addition to testing their marksmanship skills and hunting knowledge.  A program like no other, this all encompassing experience can really help set the tone of a youngster while teaching them life experiences.

YHEC ItemsAt first glance, this program looks like a shooting competition.  Given the competitive edge, that can be part of the experience, but it goes a great deal further than that.  The program teaches the participants about safety, shooting, and the outdoors through eight disciplines or challenges: Archery, Muzzleloading, Shotgun, Small-bore or Light Rifle, Responsibility Exam, Safety Trail, Orienteering Skills and Wildlife Identification Challenge.  The hunter safety trail and hunter responsibility exam inspire participants to learn more about ethics, conservation, and being good sportsmen; other events like wildlife identification and the orienteering course allow the participant to gain knowledge and real outdoor skills.  The shooting events promote marksmanship and, most importantly, safety.
