Group Applications During Phase I Only

For many hunters the best part of hunting is the shared experience with friends and family members. The quota hunt program is designed to allow hunters to apply together as a group.

How do group applications work?

Each quota application submitted receives a random number. If your friends and family apply individually, they each get a random number. This means some may get their first choice, some may get their fourth choice and some may not get a permit at all. They each take an individual chance in the drawing. Group applications get one random number.

By applying as a group, applicants are guaranteed that all members of the group receive a quota permit for the same hunt or all are turned down. Whatever the outcome of the random drawing, everybody in the group gets the same thing. If there is only one permit remaining for a hunt, and a group application is selected, the quota for that hunt will be exceeded by up to four so that everyone in the group receives a permit for the same hunt.

When and how to apply as a group

Group applications are allowed only in Phase I of the quota hunt program. Up to five hunters may apply together as a group. If selected, each member of the group will receive a quota permit for the same hunt.

Group leader: The group leader must submit their application first and set the group up.During the application process, the group leader will be asked if you are "applying individually" or "as a group." If you select "as a group," you will be asked "are you the group leader?" or "are you joining a group?". If you select "group leader," you will be asked if you want to be included in the antlerless deer drawing and asked to select the hunt choices.

The leader will get a receipt with a group number printed on it and their preference status. The group leader provides the group number to the joining members.

Group members: Each group member must submit an application. They will be asked if "applying individually" or "as a group." If they select "as a group" they will be asked "are you the group leader?" or "are you joining a group?". They will answer the group question "joining a group." The program will then ask them for the number of the group they are joining. The member will enter the group number provided by the group leader and submit their application. They will receive a conformation page with their personal information and all the selections the group leader set up for the group. Their receipt will also have their preference status printed on it.

How are preferece points awarded to the group?

The ranking of a group application in the random drawing will be determined by the group member with the lowest preference points. You can check your preference status online .
