NOAA administrator Dr. Jane Lubchenco and Adm. Thad Allen joined state, federal, and partner biologists today as they released 23 Kemp's ridley sea turtles back into the Gulf of Mexico near Cedar Key, Fla., after the turtles were successfully rescued and rehabilitated from the effects of the Deepwater Horizon/BP oil spill.

A new statute concerning certain nonnative reptiles in Florida went into effect July 1, and new regulations concerning these same species will go into effect Aug. 23.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) will begin accepting special-opportunity spring turkey hunt applications at 10 a.m. Sept. 8. The deadline for submitting applications is midnight Oct. 13.
