FWC extends order to aid dead saltwater fish cleanup efforts

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has extended its executive order that temporarily suspends certain saltwater fishing regulations to allow people and local communities to legally dispose of dead fish found in the water and on the shore.

Take a 'Fun Walk' or run through Chinsegut woods near Brooksville

The Chinsegut Nature Center in Brooksville will host its 14th annual Chinsegut Run and Fun Walk on Saturday, Feb.13. The 5K event will take place on woodland trails that wind through old-growth longleaf pine forest and oak hammocks. The center is managed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).  

Snook harvest is still prohibited

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) reminds anglers that it closed the harvest season for snook in Atlantic waters, which usually begins on Feb. 1.  

Gulf grouper sport season closes Feb. 1

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission advises anglers that regulations prohibit the recreational harvest of all shallow-water groupers (gag, black, red, yellowfin, scamp, yellowmouth, rock hind and red hind) from Feb. 1 through March 31 in all Gulf of Mexico waters off Florida, except in all waters of Monroe County.  

North Fla. spotted seatrout season closes Feb. 1

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) advises anglers that the recreational harvest season for spotted seatrout in North Florida will close for one month to help maintain spotted seatrout abundance.  

Expect new navigational aids and markers on the Loxahatchee River

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and the Jupiter Inlet District are installing navigational aids to mark new or enhance awareness of existing channels and are replacing signs marking the state-adopted manatee protection zones within the North Fork and Northwest Fork of the Loxahatchee River.  

2 Jacksonville residents injured in boat accident

A Jacksonville man and his 4-year-old son were injured Tuesday night when the boat the father was operating ran into a dock at Pottsburg Creek.
