The water and land area surrounding the water
control structure on the Guana dam at Guana River Wildlife
Management Area that has been closed since May 3 is reopening this
weekend, just in time for the free saltwater fishing weekend. The
area has been closed for necessary repairs to the
structure.
"This is the most popular place for shore-bound
anglers at the dam, and now that the construction is completed,
they can return. And just in time for the Father's Day Free Fishing
Weekend," said Justin Ellenberger, a biologist with the Florida
Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).
All Florida residents and visitors are invited to
fish statewide for saltwater species without a license during the
upcoming Father's Day weekend, June 19 and 20. All other
saltwater fishing rules continue to apply.
The Guana dam is about midway between St. Augustine
and Jacksonville Beach, just off A1A in St. Johns County.
