The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation
Commission (FWC) received an update on the Florida Black Bass
Management Plan on June 24 at the Commission meeting in Lake
Mary.
The plan is an evolving strategy that will
incorporate all aspects of the FWC and better coordinate efforts
with other partner agencies to focus resources in establishing
Florida as the undisputed Bass Fishing Capital of the World.
Tom Champeau, director of the FWC's Division of
Freshwater Fisheries Management, said, "The origin of this plan is
based heavily on public input, and it will continue to evolve based
on the desires of our angling public and resource users."
Input for the plan has come from surveys at fishing
shows, fishing club meetings or other venues during the past six
months. That information, along with scientific information about
bass populations and anglers' use, is already being reviewed by a
citizens technical advisory committee and FWC biologists to create
the first full working draft of a long-term, holistic plan.
