FWC offers Women's Fishing Clinic in Jacksonville

Women who want to learn a lifelong hobby and gain an appreciation for Florida's marine environment in a fun, laid-back, learning atmosphere can take part in the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's (FWC) Women's Fishing Clinic in Jacksonville March 19.

The FWC and community sponsors encourage women in the Jacksonville area to register for this clinic, which runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sisters Creek Jim King Boat Ramp, 8203 Hecksher Drive.

This free clinic provides women the opportunity to learn the basics of environmental stewardship, fishing ethics, angling skills and safety. One of the main objectives of the clinic is to create responsible marine resource stewards by teaching women about Florida's fragile marine ecosystems. In addition, organizers hope to teach fundamental saltwater fishing skills and provide participants a positive fishing experience.

Fishing equipment and bait will be provided during the clinic, but participants are welcome to bring their own. If conditions allow, women will have the opportunity to practice their newly learned skills and fish from shore.

This event is a catch-and-release activity, and all participants must have a valid recreational saltwater fishing license unless they are exempt from fishing license requirements.
