FWC renews accreditation status

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) Division of Law Enforcement received recognition today at a ceremony in Howey-in-the-Hills for completing the process to maintain its accreditation status.
Florida law enforcement accreditation is certified by an independent reviewing authority, the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA). A law enforcement agency must meet or exceed prescribed standards reflecting best management practices in order to achieve this status.
“This is a great honor,” said FWC Executive Director Nick Wiley. “FWC staff exhibit a professional demeanor and excellent business practices each and every day. This recognition validates the hard work they put into serving the residents and visitors of Florida and the critical role they play in the conservation of Florida’s precious fish and wildlife resources.”
A CFA assessment team, composed of law enforcement representatives from other accredited Florida law enforcement agencies, conducted on-site inspections of the division’s policies, procedures, practices and equipment to determine compliance. The team visited FWC headquarters in Tallahassee and several other offices around the state, interviewing individuals, reviewing written materials and observing activity.
“We sincerely support the accreditation process,” said Col. Jim Brown, director of the FWC’s Division of Law Enforcement. “It has been an effective way to ensure that we are operating efficiently and providing the best service we possibly can.”
The FWC was initially accredited in 2009. This reaccreditation will be active for another three years.
