About MarineQuest

In 1995, the first MarineQuest open house was held. The event was created to inform the public about the research performed at the institute, and to introduce the community to the world of marine science. The next year, MarineQuest expanded, and a second day was added to provide local schools and students an opportunity to visit the institute.

In the years that followed, MarineQuest evolved into a three-day event that welcomes thousands; more than 8,400 people attended last year. Through the years, MarineQuest has also grown to include exhibits about wildlife and freshwater fish. School Daze, a special version of MarineQuest available to 4th through 8th grade students by registration only, is held on the Thursday and Friday before the public open house. Students who visit School Daze get a guided tour through a sampling of MarineQuest stations. At each station, FWC staff lead activities and provide hands-on demonstrations to explain their research projects to the students. Then on Saturday, the public is invited to enjoy MarineQuest and learn about Florida’s fish and wildlife, and their habitats.
