Species inventory at Molasses reef

The Coral Reef/Hardbottom Monitoring Project also collects data the old-fashioned way, using a data sheet printed on under water paper. Scientists look for coral species inside our sampling stations and check mark the ones that are present. This image was taken at Molasses Reef, near Key Largo in August 2000.

Sawfish look like sharks but are more closely related to rays. Their gill slits are on the bottom of their bodies, like stingrays.
