Fauna Sampling Tools

Fauna, or biota, are collected from the high, mid, and low areas of the swash zone using a sand flea scoop lined with 1-millimeter mesh (upper left). Samples are sieved in the field to remove fine sand, and preserved for laboratory analysis.
