Species Account: Ranges from
India to southern China. Red-whiskered Bulbuls apparently escaped
in 1960 from a tourist attraction in the Kendall area of Dade
County during Hurricane Donna (Carleton and Owre 1975). This
population has extended its range northeast to South Miami but
remains limited to a small geographic area (Florida BBA), where eat
some insects but primarily feeds on drupes, berries, and small
fruits of exotic plants, such as the Brazilian pepper, various
figs, and loquat (Carleton and Owre 1975). It nests in shrubs,
small trees, or hanging planters.
Habitats: Central or core urban
area, Low density suburban development, areas peripheral to
core urban areas, and small towns.
